Schoolhouse Fenwick

The Schoolhouse is a newly adapted wheelchair-accessible cottage set in a peaceful location with easy access to the Northumberland Coast, Holy Island and Bamburgh.  The cottage has level access interior, a ground-floor accessible bedroom with profiling bed and ceiling hoist coverage into a brand new en-suite wet-room, and an accessible garden.

The Schoolhouse has spacious ground-floor reception rooms including a south-facing living room with sofas, TV, cosy log-burning stove, and open countryside views. The light and airy kitchen/dining room has a stylish kitchen, dining table with free-standing seating, and wheelchair accessible door opening onto the private rear garden. The kitchen also leads round into a ‘snug’ alcove with sofa and views over the garden.

The ground-floor has a newly adapted accessible suite with electric profiling bed and ‘H’ track ceiling hoist coverage through to an en-suite wet-room. The spacious and modern accessible wet-room has hoist access into the step-free shower area with height-adjustable changing bench, and hoist access to the WC. The wet-room has fixed grab-rails for the washbasin and WC, a drop-down grab-rail for the WC, and a wheel-under washbasin with lever-style taps. Please note the wet-room has been designed for use with the shower bench. A large Rifton HTS shower chair or a wide shower stool are available – please note that the shower location is close to the folded up changing bench.

The Schoolhouse has three further bedrooms on the first floor including a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, a single bedroom with queen-size bed, and a twin bedroom. The large family bathroom has a large bath and separate shower (shower stool available).

The cottage has off street parking for two vehicles (WAV and family car), a private rear garden with level paved patio, accessible ramped access to upper level with outdoor seating, a herb garden and summerhouse (partially accessible).

Northumberland Council have recently invested in the area providing Changing Places toilets in Alnwick, Seahouses, Holy Island as well as Berwick Sports Centre where the changing facilities offer a hoisted access to the swimming pool.  Beach Access North East are a local charity offering free wheelchair loan at an increasingly wide variety of beaches in the area.
