George Barn, Gloucestershire
Built in 1948 on the site of an old thatched barn where the draft horses’ harnesses were stored on the first floor overnight, George Barn was designed to hold implements , tractors, potatoes and apples on the ground floor and bulk grain on the first floor.
This use did not last much beyond the 1950’s and more recently it served as an office and motorcycle workshop/store for 10 years or so before recently being converted into a wheelchair accessible unit.
Access to the ground floor is by either the 840mm wide side door or by opening the bifold doors in the front of the picture. In addition to the ground floor double bedroom with ensuite wet-room, up to 3 first ensuite double bedrooms can be made available offering flexible accommodation for 2, 4, 6 or 8 people (prices set accordingly).
The flexible lounge/kitchen/diner can accommodate up to 8 including a wheelchair. The electric armchair, settees and comfy carvers can allow all to enjoy a good book or watch your choice of program on the 50- inch Smart Colour TV (Sky, catchup & BT Sport included). Wi-Fi and radio/music player provided. All furniture can be moved to make the room easier to use and more convenient for wheelchair users.
Under-floor heating and warm & easy clean Karndean flooring add to your comfort.
The adapted kitchen includes fan assisted electric oven tower with pull out shelf to help with transfer of pots and pans which are stored in the drawers below. Induction hob and kitchen sink are incorporated in an electric table that can accommodate wheelchair users and be adjusted to suit your height. Dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer are alongside.
Beyond the kitchen is the ground floor double bedroom with ensuite wet-room and electric profiling double bed. There is plenty of storage space in the wardrobe and chest of drawers and room to manoeuvre a wheelchair. Light switches and emergency call system can all be operated from the bed, as can the 26” colour television.
Double action swing doors give easy access to the ensuite wetroom (also accessible from the kitchen). Wall mounted shower seat (shower wheelchair also available) and comfort height toilet (measurements on picture) both have drop down bars for easy safe access. In the corner immediately beyond the shower seat is a two speed body drier to help you to dry yourself quickly. Wall mounted vertical bars for support are provided alongside the basins and body drier.
There are 3 ensuite double bedrooms on the first floor, climb the staircase and beyond the landing is the back bedroom with its lovely Cotswold stone wall. The dormer to the left provides a nice view towards the Catholic church and Chipping Campden.
We do not allow any smoking inside the cottages and as allergy suffers we also do not allow pets with the exception of Guide Dogs who are welcome, but please note that we do make a small additional cleaning charge.
Off-road parking for 3 cars, accessed via private drive. There is a small accessible garden adjacent to the parking area and there is a further safe amenity/exercise area for children on the other side of Blind Lane.
